Position: Breast and Endocrine Surgical Fellow
This position is suitable for a first year trainee.
This position will provide advanced training in the full range of Breast and Endocrine Surgery. The post will involve on-call for General Surgery at a Fellow level.
There is an expectation that the successful applicant is skilled and confident in abdominal/emergency General Surgery, and there will be ample opportunity to build on those skills during the fellowship.
The Unit consists of six surgeons, performing more than 250 breast cancer and 150 thyroid operations each year. There is scope for oncoplastic training, with tissue expander, implant based and muscle transfer reconstruction, and collaboration with the Plastic Surgery Department. The Unit is closely allied with the Strathfield Breast Centre with integrated data collection and weekly Breast Tumour Board Meetings.
There is also significant General Surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery exposure. Excellent opportunities are available for clinically based research. Involvement in teaching of SET trainees, JMOs, students and paramedical staff is expected.
The position is full time, based at Concord Hospital, under the award classification of Senior Registrar.

BREAKDOWN OF HOURS – 4 hr/wk Outpatient clinics, 4 full day sessions/wk(2 concurrent) Operating lists, and General Surgery on-call each Monday and 1 weekend in 4 On-call requirements
PRIVATE CONSULTING – Supplementary consulting sessions in the Specialist’s private rooms by arrangement - YES, option possible
MDT – (Multidisciplinary management of breast cancer patients) - YES, Weekly with Strathfield Breast Centre – Discuss NeoAdjuvant, advanced and all post op patients, Radiological review of cases weekly with tutorial
ACADEMIC & RESEARCH – any Academic involvement and / or Research activities available to the trainee or required - YES, Large data base – research encouraged.
FUNDED 1 year FTE role commencing on RACS start date early February 2021 - YES
SALARY will be Full time salary equivalent to Senior Registrar salary (or greater) and minimum salary package and requirements and conditions as required by law in the Hospital jurisdiction will apply - YES
