Position: Post Fellowship Trainee in Breast Surgery

This position is suitable for a first year Fellow.

This is a First-year Breast Fellowship position, offering breast surgeons the opportunity to work at the Royal Melbourne and Royal Women's Hospitals in Melbourne. The unit sees ~400 breast cancers per annum and is served by 6 breast surgeons as well as our reconstructive service (2 plastic surgeons and a reconstructive surgical Fellow).

There is an on call commitment for the Royal Women's Hospital and the possibility of on-call work for general surgery and trauma. Daily ward rounds with junior staff (breast surgery intern) at the Women's Hospital, and assistance to the Advanced surgical trainee with ward management at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

The Fellow will manage the waiting/booking list for cases at the Women's Hospital, and help the junior staff and data manager with MDM preparation. There is ample opportunity to conduct research with the aims of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presenting papers at national/ international meetings.

Breast Oncoplastic Surgery: Moderate
Breast Reconstruction Surgery: Moderate
General and Other Surgery: Possibility of some endocrine surgery clinic and operating. Possible participation in emergency surgery at RMH in consultant with EGS team. General surgery service to the Women's Hospital
Breakdown of Hours: 3 breast Outpatient clinics per week. Fortnightly Familial Cancer Clinic. 3 x half day operating lists per week; 1 x half day private assisting/week; 1 in 4 on call for emergencies at Royal Women's Hospital
Private Consulting: N/A
MDT: Weekly adjuvant and weekly pre-op MDM
Academic & Research: Many opportunities to contribute to research projects and clinical trials
Funded: 1 year FTE role commencing early February 2022
Salary: will be Full time salary equivalent to Senior Registrar salary (or greater) and minimum salary package and requirements and conditions as required by law in the Hospital jurisdiction will apply
