Robina Hospital provides Breast Surgical Services for the Gold Coast District. This position offers excellent experience in benign and malignant breast disease management in a multidisciplinary environment.
The position includes public operative experience. The fellow will be working closely with five specialist breast surgeons in a high volume breast cancer unit, seeing in excess of 450 new breast cancer patients per year.
The operative experience will include:
• Mastectomy – including nipple and skin sparing mastectomy.
• Breast conserving surgery – including therapeutic mammoplasty and partial breast reconstruction with various Oncoplastic flaps.
• Sentinel lymph node biopsy – including axillary lymph node clearance.
• Immediate and delayed expander, implant, latissimus dorsi, DIEP reconstruction
• Other oncoplastic exposure: autologous fat grafting, mastopexies
The fellow will also gain some experience in Melanoma, Endocrine and general surgery and will be part of the general surgical on call roster.
There is a weekly Breast clinic, multidisciplinary oncoplastic clinic (?) and multidisciplinary breast cancer meeting. The fellow will be expected to contribute to medical student, resident and advanced trainee teaching, audit journal club and research. The fellow will be able to attend breast screen assessment clinics during their attachment.
