The Flinders Medical Centre Department of Surgery is pleased to offer the position of Post Fellowship training in Breast and Endocrine Surgery.
The successful applicant will work closely with the five surgeons of the Breast and Endocrine Surgical Unit in the management of patients with malignant and benign breast disease. This position will provide the necessary exposure and experience to fulfil all the requirements of the BreastSurgANZ post fellowship training in the areas of surgery, clinical assessment, multi-disciplinary team meetings, Breast Screen assessment, and course attendances.
There will be significant exposure to Oncoplastic and reconstructive aspects of breast cancer management, in conjunction with the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The successful candidate will be invited to participate in clinics with the two Consultant Plastic Surgeons who consult within the Flinders Medical Centre Breast Clinic weekly, and will be required to co-ordinate and participate in the combined cases.
The successful candidate will supervise audit activities, including both the BreastSurgANZ Quality Audit and the FMC Breast Unit’s own database, and will be expected to use the resources of this audit, and the Unit’s own data manager, to undertake or supervise clinical research. There will be opportunity to assist in the private sector for further exposure beyond the scope of public practice. There will be an expectation to take part in the General Surgical on call roster and work independently in common acute general surgical procedures with friendly and collegiate support from all consultants.
Flinders Medical Centre is a 580 bed public teaching hospital, co-located with the Medical School of Flinders University of South Australia, and the 130 bed Flinders Private Hospital.

Breast Oncoplastic Surgery:
Exposure to Level 1 and 2 oncoplastic procedures
Breast Reconstruction Surgery:
Exposure to reconstructive procedures with both Breast and Plastic Surgeons
General and Other Surgery:
Full range of endocrine procedures on elective lists. General Surgery procedures as part of Emergency on call
Breakdown of hours:
Up to 3 outpatient clinics per week. On call for General Surgery is approximately 3 times per month (maximum on-call period is 24 hours). 5 half day theatre lists per week, with nine half day clinics. Not all are attended by the Fellow

Academic & Research:
A research project during the 12-month term is encouraged. Opportunity exists for presentation at the state-side journal club.
Funded:

Salary:
Full time salary equivalent to Senior Registrar salary (or greater) and minimum salary package and requirements and conditions as required by law in the Hospital jurisdiction will apply

In addition to the breast workload, trainees are expected to manage endocrine patients and perform surgical procedures under supervision.
